I have tried this repeatedly yet still am receiving numerous texts from them DAILY.
Enter the short code or phone number of the offending text message to find out more about the sender.

Still receiving texts after program stopped. no way of opting out,
No, it did not. I had to do a web search and find a special opt out number to text the stop request to. That was stupid, especially since it was coming to my 14 yr old daughter cell. Fyi, for other folks that opt out # is 84816
I started getting these ridiculous texts when I got my number changed. It is absolutely RIDICULOUS that you have to reply STOP to a completely different number than what the texts come from.
Texting STOP to 84816 does work!! You will get a reply message that says, "We are sorry to see you go! You will not be sent any more messages from CBS. Msg+Data Rates may apply".
Be blessed and stay safe, all!! THANKS SO MUCH to the person above who was able to provide the correct nukber to stop these texts!! :)
I was scared they would charge me.
84816 does work! Thank you so much from saving me from these annoying text messages.
Billy your friend has sent you a free Best Buy Gift Card just enter your email address at http://smsgatetown.com
I got a text that said your friend janet sent you a free best buy gift card
I did reply STOP to 84816 and i received the msg: CBS Local: We are sorry to see you go! You will not be sent any more messages from CBS. You would only be charged what your plan costs for sending/receiving txts. I Think I ended up getting on this list because I follow to a show by CBS on their Twitter page. Had no issues till I started following. Just a thought.

I replied "STOP" to this number (99888) and immediately got a reply asking what CBS Mobile alerts to opt out of. I replied "ALL" from their list, and again got an immediate confirmation that I would recieve no more texts from that number.
I got a message a day ago saying.
My phone is about to die. This site lets me send and receive txts for free. Try it, its Free!!

Yesterday I called in to vote for dancing with the stars tv show. Now I keep getting text msg from 99888. I think its a result of the tv show.
I think it did work, I texted Stop to 84816 & I got the CBS Local thing that everyone else is getting, So I'm assuming it worked. It sucks cause these texts are sent to me like around 3-5 in the morning. Hopefully it worked...
I received a message about a best buy gift card, replied stop, and then all and received an opt out confirmation. I am more interested in how they got my number. Calling the phone numbers for cbs alerts on this page and on the opt out confirmation text both lead to dead ends. How can I contact them? Also I know I did not sign up for this. If I am able to contact them, I will speak with a lawyer and post all my findings here. Does anyone have any more info about which products or services they could have signed up for prior to receiving the texts? I would look at social networking sites such as facebook, as I believe that facebooks app platform could be a likely culprit.
Tried the 84816 and thought it worked, but got the same message again within 15 min. Going to try it again and see what happens.
